Recently we had a conversation about the greatest commandment. Like so many other commandments I think we are incapable of accomplishing this one in our own strength. If we are honest with ourselves do you really think you would be able to love your enemies if we don’t have God’s love poured in our hearts?
In ourselves we are incapable of love. Love is from God.
1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
1Jn 4:8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1Jn 4:10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us
1Jn 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
Rom 5:5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Rom 5:8 …but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God is the source of love, more than that: Love is a person, and its God. You need to seek Him in order to obtain Love and be able to Love.
Now this morning watching a steve cioccolanti youtube video he mentioned that someone had a near death experience and it goes something like this: He saw / experienced 2 queues of people. A long one all ending with people falling off a cliff and a sort one where Jesus is waiting. So he proceeded to the sort one and the lady in front of him was asked by Jesus: Did you learn to love? She proceeded to say yes and He kissed her and she entered into heaven.
(To my surprise I was looking for the person who had this vision and it was Bob Jones. http://didyoulearntolove.org/his-story/ )
Looking at myself Love is not something that comes from me, it is something that flows from God and like anything in the Word of God, we need to obtain it by faith. We receive the Holy Spirit by Faith, and we can ask God to pour out his Love in our hearts by Faith. Only then will we be able to learn how to love.
